Camp Getsemaní originated through the vision of a local ranching family, members of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Cuidad Acuña. At their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Fransisco Lopez Sr. had donated their ranch to Primera with the condition that it would be used in such a manner to uplift the body of Christ. Pictured above is Mrs. Lopez and her son Fransisco.
From that one family and their commitment to Christ, Camp Getsemaní was given its start. The River Ministry of the BGCT along with various churches throughout Texas and as far away as Canada have partnered through financial as well as personal "hands on" contributions which have significantly progressed the construction of the physical plant and extended the ministries beyond that of a convenient home base for visiting mission groups or an occasional retreat.
Due to the expansion of the Camp's ability for ministry, the need for a governing board of directors and formal incorporation as a non-profit entity was needed. The first board was elected in June of 1999 to begin work to formalize the administration of the Camp. In March 2001, we met that goal with the completion of incorporation as an "Asociación Civil" (roughly equivalent to a 501C3 organization in the U.S.) in Mexican state of Coahuila.
The "junta directiva" (board of directors) is comprised of Christians from both the U.S. and Mexico. They represent their respecitve churches who individually and corporately have committed themselves to partner with the development of the ministries at the Camp.
Another major milestone came in June of 2002 when our first full time camp administrator was hired. A celebration commemorating the Lopez family coupled with another page in history being turned through the addition of the camp administrator was joyfully celebrated in August of 2002.
We are excited at what only God could have done in the past and what He is preparing for the future at Camp Getsemaní. We invite you to visit the other web pages at our site to learn more of the vision God has for us. We also invite you to become a Camp Getsemaní partner, whether supporting financially, support in one of our construction endeavors, or by using us as your home base for your church or group's mission outreach at the U.S./Mexican border. We are here to support the furtherance of the Gospel and build a stronger Church at the border.
